curriculum_planning Our school-based curriculum is centred around picture books. Parents are given a reading guide to accompany the reading of each picture book. With the reading guide, parents can get a better grasp of the story, and use the discussion questions in it for more bookish fun and getting a deeper understanding of their children’s inner world. The reading guide also comes with cultural information related to the story, enabling readers to make connections with local life while reading. It also suggests places parents can visit with their children, encouraging children to gain knowledge through hands-on experience. Our school-based curriculum is a “living” one. We also pay attention to children’s second language acquisition. We have specialist teachers teaching Putonghua and English. Through morning assemblies, class activities, songs, conversations, role-plays and games, children are given opportunities to learn and apply what they have learnt. In our English lessons, we teach children English phonics in addition to English textbook content to help children acquire a good pronunciation and learn to read using phonics. We will follow the “Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide” (2017) to plan curriculum. Children of nursery classes will not be asked to write, and there will not be mechanical copying exercises and drills on calculation.
